Wild Nothing

My old pal DBS showed me this wonderful new band called Wild Nothing which hale from Virginia. I'm really vibing them, so much so that I'm pretending it's the summertime while I drift of in their delightful little world. They do a strange cover of Cloudbusting by Kate Bush which I'm not yet 100% sold on but besides that, they are pretty brill. Here is their first single "Live in Dreams," with lyrics like this: "Our lips won't last forever and that's exactly why/ I'd rather live in dreams and I'd rather die," I'm yours you wild nothing, you. (Someone tell me to shut-up...)

This is David Boyd Smiley aka "DBS" (and Cohen.)

GAH! Top 10 2010 Alert!!!

This has taken me too long to say, BUT, the incredible new Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffitti EP, Before Today is BANGARANG. How many times have you heard aficionado's/any music fan compare the latest lo-fi home recorded bands/artists to "Ariel Pink meets blah-di-blah." As blanket and easy as this phrase has become, it's a testament to the brilliance behind the way Ariel Pink did his thing. These guys have been underground for so long that the stigma surrounding them became more than the music they were releasing (especially since everything they were releasing was at least 5 years old). This has given them the perfect platform for large scale release while still keeping their grime in tact. While the shite sound quality, nee their original charm, has been all but eradicated the songs still retain that lo-fi (inexpensive) haziness that we all know and love.

My personal highlight would probably be the cover of Rockin' Ramrods' 1966 song "Bright Lit Blue Skies." The video clip roolz too.

Here's the original (you can see why they had to cover it):

Jody Rogac - polaroids.

I came across this photographer via a Melbourne design company's blog, http://www.andmelbourne.com/blog/. I am really intrigued by most of Rogac's work but it is the polaroids that really draw me in. It's that same raw sexuality tinged with innocence that I always fall sucker for. (Oh the psychanalyisis that could be had!) Let's just leave it as the simple fact that Rogac has a beautiful, natural vision that is at the same time poignent and soft. Check out more of her work here, http://jodyrogac.com/, I'm sure you will agree.

Entrance Romance by Ryan McGinley

starring Carolyn Murphy. Stunning.

SPACESHITS

The Spaceshits on Montreal today in 1998. This is some amaze footage. It does seem to pose the question of why on earth Mark Sultan was such a sook about not getting enough credit in the King Khan and BBQ Show where he is clearly far too important to even show his face here. I don't know about that whole rumour though, the guy's done quite enough in his life with all the bands and guises he's created or leant a hand in, (The King Khan & BBQ Show, BBQ, The Ding-Dongs, The Almighty Defenders, Mind Controls, The Ciaoculos, Les Sexareenos and The Spaceshits, etc) surely he can assume he is recognised and appreciated... even if it is by less humans than he thinks he deserves... hey, here's an idea Marky Mark Mark Mark Mark, why don't you just shut the shit up and just keep making that really awesome music you do well? Sound good? Goooood.
